I am in the market to get new glasses and have been browsing eyeglass shops for a couple weeks now. There really hasn’t been much that have caught my eye (hahaha!) yet but the other day I walked into a place downtown and the owner of the store felt it was his duty to update me on the current fashion trends in eyewear. He told me that the big frames from the 80s were back and tried to convince me that that was exactly what I needed. I told him point blank that there was absolutely no way that I was ever going back to those ridiculously massive frames of the 80s.
Having started wearing glasses when I was 9 years old, I’ve suffered through my share of large, plastic and then wire frames. No matter what they were made out of or what shape they were in, nothing could disguise the gigantic lenses on my face. I think the first time I bought a smallish pair of glasses frames was when I was in my 20s. During my teens I mostly wore contact lenses to avoid wearing glasses at all cost.
Granted, this woman in the pic sure can pull off these large, clear glasses. JCrew can sell anything. But I am not budging on my stance. No big, ugly frames for me thank you very much. I’ll keep shopping.
